Over the years there have been some great movies about the sport of boxing. This is not surprising, as the boxers endure one of the most complex schemes of preparation of any sport and requires an incredible amount of sacrifice and discipline. Unlike team sports, most of the time the boxers are not the one to blame but themselves if they won.
When it came to choosing my favorite boxing movie of all time, ended up being harder than I thought. Without further ado, here’s my list.
I’ll start with the obvious. Original movie Rocky should make the cut. One of several films boxing to win an Academy Award for Best Film Of The Year, Rocky is an American classic.
In my opinion, one of the greatest films ever made is Raging Bull. What happens to be a movie about boxing just makes that much better. This is not your typical Disney movie inspirational sports. It is a dark and hard in such a way that only Martin Scorsese managed to create.
Million Dollar Baby, of course, makes the cut. I do not want to give anything away for those who have not yet seen, but everything about this movie is amazing. Clint Eastwood was the best cantankerous old man in the industry.
It would be remiss not to include yet another Rocky movie in this list. In my opinion, the best film Rocky Rocky 4. Dolph Lundgren stars as Ivan Drago and plays one of the most despisable villains of all time. I still can not forgive him until now because he did Rocky.
Starring Humphrey Bogart, Harder They Fall American classic, which was released in 1944. This film has a journalist’s point of view and focuses on the dark side of boxing, wrestling with the subject, such as fighting equipment.
After reviewing this list, it is not surprising that so many films on the box to receive critical acclaim. Let us, as moviegoers, I hope that future films box to live in accordance with the standards that their predecessors have set.
